3v3 Ice Hockey Rules & Regulations

The Burlington Pond

3 on 3 Rules

Teams must be ready 10 minutes prior to each game as games may start early!

  1. Games: 2 minutes warm up with 2 period, 21 minutes in length with 1.5-minute buzzers. (Running Time)

  1. Points: 2 Points Win, 0 Points Loss, 1 Point for Shootout Loss.

  1. Games Sheets: Only Players on roster can play. Any one caught using a player not on the roster will  forfeit the game.

  1. 3 goal-per-period rules are in effect. No player can score more than 3 goals per period. Timekeepers will track goal scorers at the timekeeper box. If a player scores a 4th goal, warning will be given and the goal is waived off by the referee. Should the same player after one warning score again a penalty will be called.  If a team falls behind by 5 or more goals then the 3 goal per period rule is waived (until the gap is again closed to less than 5 goals behind) for the rest of the game. The 3-goal rule is also waived if a player with 3 goals is awarded a penalty shot (waived for that penalty shot only). At this age 3 goal rule is to prevent blowouts!

  1. When a team is up 5+ goals the opposing team can send a 4th player on ice. We do not show a 5+ goal  difference on the scoreboard. Only on a game sheet with a timekeeper.

  1. Tie Games: Sudden Death Shootout will occur. This will take place after all penalty shots have been  taken. This includes all round robin and playoff games. No game shall end in a tie. Place *asterisk next  to three shooters names on the game sheet prior to the game. No player can shoot again until all players have  had a chance, on a game by game basis.

  1. When a goal is scored, the team that scored must clear the zone (Red Line)

  1. When the goalie makes a save and Ref has blown the whistle the offensive Team must clear the zone. (Blue Line)

  1. After the shift buzzer has sounded no players ending their shift will be allowed to touch or shoot the  puck. The first offense will be a warning to both teams. Any infractions from either team thereafter will  result in a penalty shot awarded to the opposing team at the end of the game.

  1. No Icing

  1. When a team has less than 2 lines, the players that remain on the ice for a double shift must clear the zone before touching the puck.

  1. Penalties: A penalty shot is awarded to the non-offending team. Penalty shot differential will take place at the end of the game and will count towards the final score only if it makes a difference. Tie  Game: Penalty shots will occur first, then sudden death shootout. Any player who receives 3+  Penalties  in one game is pulled from the game/bench until the game is over. Penalties: If Team 1 for example has 4 Penalties and Team 2 has 2 penalties then Team 2 will shoot for 2 penalty shots.
